Harvey blew in off the Gulf of Mexico as a tropical storm. It quickly grew in strength and topped out as a Category 3 hurricane with winds in excess of 110 miles per hour. And then it sat. The eye of the storm drifted on and off shore, hitting Texas no less than three times. And it sat some more, bringing punishing tornadoes, relentless rain and damaging floods.
People lost their homes, their businesses, and in at least two cases, their lives. But the flip side of Harvey was that it brought people together. Neighbors helped neighbors, people drove to Texas with their boats in tow to help in the rescue, others sent teams down to help with the clean up. Ordinary citizens provided shelter, food and clothing to those who lost so much.
That is the American spirit, the American way.
This is the t-shirt that commemorates the people pulling together and getting by and getting through - together. Give it to someone who got through the storm and its aftermath, to someone who showed up simply to help, to someone who lost so much, but who survived. To yourself.
